How signing reminders work

Automatic reminders are off by default. If you have not enabled them, zSign sends the initial signing invitation and nothing further — chasing is yours to do.

You can send the first manual reminder straight away. There is no waiting period before it — the 72-hour spacing below only applies once that recipient has already been reminded at least once. If someone has gone quiet and you want to nudge them now, you can.

The limits, which apply to automatic and manual reminders alike:

• At most one reminder per 72 hours, measured from the last reminder sent to that recipient. The first one is not delayed.
• A maximum of 2 reminders per recipient, ever. Not per week — ever.
• Reminders only go to recipients who have not signed and have not declined.
• Envelopes sent with send_invite: false refuse reminders. zSign never emailed the invitation, so it does not send the follow-up either — whoever owns delivery owns chasing. An API caller can override this per request.

If you try to send a manual reminder inside the 72-hour window or after the cap, zSign refuses and names the limit you hit. This is deliberate: signature reminders that turn into a drip campaign get the whole sending domain marked as spam, which hurts every customer.

Once a recipient is out of reminders, contact them yourself.
